About SunsetGather
Last updated: May 22, 2026
SunsetGather is a documentation resource covering dusk bird migration observation and flyway monitoring in Poland. The site collects field notes, observation methodology, and references to established citizen science programmes relevant to bird passage monitoring during evening hours.
Content on this site is written in an informational style and draws on publicly available sources including the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (OTOP), the EURING ring recovery databank, Wetlands International, and peer-reviewed ornithological literature. No unpublished data are presented.
Scope and Coverage
The primary focus is on observation during the dusk window — the period from approximately 90 minutes before sunset to the end of civil twilight. This window is treated as methodologically distinct from daytime observation because the light conditions, species composition, and recording techniques differ significantly from midday fieldwork.
Geographic coverage centres on Poland, with emphasis on the Vistula and Bug river valleys, Baltic coastal sites, and major wetland complexes including Biebrza, the Milicz Ponds, and the Noteć valley. These areas concentrate migrating birds during spring (February–May) and autumn (July–November) passage and are the subject of long-term monitoring programmes by Polish ornithological organisations.
